Parent Café Review: “Helping Children Learn Successfully – Understanding and Nurturing Strengths, Including ADHD”
June 19, 2026 · Created by The Friends of Douglas House
On 12 June, the latest Parent Café hosted by the Friends of Douglas House took place in the school cafeteria. Around 30 parents attended and enjoyed an informative and inspiring morning in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The event focused on an important question: What does my child need in order to learn successfully while feeling understood, supported, and empowered?
We were delighted to welcome two experienced speakers who shared their expertise and passion for topics that are clearly close to their hearts.Daniela Faber, a learning therapist and qualified teacher with more than 25 years of experience in a variety of educational settings, provided valuable insights into the foundations of successful learning. Drawing on current research, she explained how learning takes place in the brain and highlighted the importance of safety, relationships, repetition, meaning, and strengths-based approaches in supporting children’s development. Parents particularly appreciated the practical examples from her work with children and young people, as well as her useful recommendations for supporting learning at home.Parents can find Daniela Faber’s presentation (German and English versions) attached to this article.Further information about her work is available on her website:https://www.danielafaber.com/Jenny Missen, Trustee of ADDISS, shared insights drawn from more than 30 years of professional and personal experience supporting individuals with ADHD and their families. With warmth and practical examples, she demonstrated how children with ADHD can be better understood, supported, and empowered both at home and in school. Her presentation highlighted the importance of awareness, acceptance, and appropriate support strategies for children with ADHD.More information about ADDISS can be found at:https://www.addiss.co.uk/Both presentations were received with great interest by the audience. It was clear to everyone present how deeply both speakers care about their respective fields and how committed they are to supporting children and families. The talks were followed by a lively question-and-answer session, giving parents the opportunity to raise individual questions, share experiences, and engage in meaningful discussion. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Daniela Faber and Jenny Missen for their inspiring contributions, openness, and the valuable insights they shared with our school community. We would also like to thank all parents who attended and contributed to the positive and engaging atmosphere throughout the morning. We wish both speakers continued success in their important work and look forward to future Parent Café events.Parent Café Review
