Johansen Individualised Auditory Stimulation
What is JIAS®
JIAS (Johansen Individualised Auditory Stimulation)
JIAS is a personalised auditory training programme that uses specially composed music to strengthen auditory processing in the brain. This ability is crucial to how well we understand speech, filter out noise, concentrate and process information.
The training is based on findings in neuroplasticity: the brain can change and improve throughout life.
The music is listened to at home for 10–15 minutes every day and regularly adapted to the individual's personal hearing profile.
JIAS has been used in many countries for over 30 years and has proven effective for children, adolescents and adults.
I accompany my clients through the entire process – from analysis to successful implementation in everyday life.

Procedure – step by step
The JIAS process is clearly structured and can be easily integrated into everyday life:
1. Initial consultation & medical history
We discuss your current challenges, goals and previous experiences.
2. Hearing profile & analysis
A standardised procedure is used to record your individual hearing pattern.
This profile shows which frequencies should be particularly enhanced.
3. Individual music programme
A personal music file is created based on the hearing profile and made available on an app.
It is listened to for 10–15 minutes a day via headphones – in the comfort of your own home.
4. Regular adjustments
The hearing profile is reviewed every 4–8 weeks.
A new music programme is then created to further support progress.
5. Completion & evaluation
At the end of the training, the changes are discussed and documented together.
The total duration is usually between 3 and 9 months, depending on age, initial situation and objectives.

Areas of application
Areas of application – for children, adolescents and adults
JIAS can be helpful when auditory processing makes learning, working or everyday life difficult. Typical areas of application are:
-
Auditory processing and perception problems
(e.g. difficulty filtering out speech from
background noise)
-
Reading and spelling difficulties
(e.g. problems matching sounds to letters)
-
Concentration and attention problems
(e.g. easily distracted by noise)
-
Language development delays
(e.g. unclear pronunciation, slow language

-
Sensitivity to noise or stress caused by noise
-
Support for multilingualism
(e.g. clearer sound perception)
-
Promotion of learning and working abilities in adolescents and adults
(e.g. studies, career, everyday life)
The training is gentle, suitable for everyday use and appropriate for people of all ages.
